The Magnavox Odyssey is the first commercial Home video game console. It was first demonstrated in April 1972 and released in August of that year, predating the Atari Pong home consoles by three years.

The Odyssey was designed by Ralph H.Baer, assisted by engineers William Harrison and William Rusch. They began around 1966 and had a working prototype finished by 1968. This prototype was known as the Brown Box.

When did gaming got popular?

Gaming didn’t reach mainstream popularity during the 1970 when arcade video games, gaming consoles and home computer games were introduced to the general public. Since then, video gaming has become a popular form of entertainment and a part of modern culture in most parts of the world. The early history of video games, therefore, covers the period of time between the first interactive electronic game with an electronic display in 1947 and the first true video games in the early 1950s.

Before 1960 to make a game or to work in the game industry was almost none existent, to have a degree in computer science and physics. 1970 to the 1990s gaming became a lot more popular worldwide although degrees in computer science and to know how to code were needed to game a job in the games industry.
